Beautification

Working To Keep April Sound Beautiful

A Butterfly Patch in Honor of Ann Marie Ricci

A Butterfly Patch in Honor of Ann Marie Ricci

Before ASPOA created their own Beautification committee the Civic Association worked on many projects to enhance our community. With that POA committee now in place there are fewer beautification projects for us, however we have a representative on the committee and work with the POA on some projects when asked to do so.

Our most recent project consisted of clearing out the planter at the memorial park area beside the POA building, an area that had previously been cared for by the Civic Association. Old overgrown plants were removed and replaced with those healthier and more appropriate to the area.  As a fundraiser for ASCA, you may purchase an engraved Legacy Brick to pave the area.

Join us in Building a Butterfly Patch on Saturday June 25 at 9am at the POA Park. Abbie Ince Hendrickson, a Wildlife Biologist, will give us a short presentation on how to best support Butterflies, Bees and Hummingbirds and lead us through the planting of select pollinator plants in a small garden bed near the POA office.

The plants selected are all native or adaptive native perennials and most plants will bloom throughout the entire growing season. Handouts will be available. Children are most welcome. Hats and sunscreen are important and garden gloves for those helping with the digging.

The April Sound Civic Association is helping with this beautification event and dedicating the Butterfly Patch to Ann Marie Ricci, one of our neighborhood’s most dedicated and tireless volunteers and great lover of butterflies. She is our own Social Butterfly!

Donations to a new Civic Association Butterfly and Wildlife Fund will help sponsor this activity and help maintain its beauty. Please send any contributions to the April Sound Civic Association and notate that it is for the Butterfly Patch. There is a drop box at the POA office, or mail checks to P.O. Box 223 Montgomery 77356. Online donations can be made at aprilsoundcivicassociation.org. (Please note the Civic Association is not a charitable foundation and is unfortunately unable to give tax deductible receipts.)
